Kroger $25 Gift Card Giveaway ... and a Tale of Chocolate Cake

Yesterday I'd planned on having chocolate cake as the dessert for Sunday dinner. I baked the cake ...

Oh, all right; I can not tell a lie. I didn't really bake it. Betty Crocker is good friends with my hubby, Russ, and she helped him make it! But, I did frost it which should count for something.

Anyway, so we had this yummy, chocolatey, moist cake (Am I making you hungry yet?) just waiting to tickle our taste buds, and when we opened the fridge to get a glass of cold milk to go with it ... acckkkk!

Low on milk. Very low.

The choice was milk with cake, or milk with breakfast. I would have opted for milk with cake, but Russ isn't too fond of having his breakfast shredded-wheat-thingies-that-taste-like-a-cereal-box without milk.

Improvisation became necessary, and I now know from experience that lemonade and chocolate cake do not go particularly well together. It would have been better to pair the lemonade with the shredded-wheat-thingies-that-taste-like-a-cereal-box. Especially since it would have been Russ eating that for breakfast, while I could've had another piece of chocolate cake to start my day!

All of which leads me to a point. Kroger is having a cool event in which shoppers can receive free milk. Plus, a $25 Gift Card Giveaway! Here's the scoop from Kroger on the free milk.

You Know You're a Writer When ...

Because I love quotes, thoughts, quips, and anecdotes, I decided to follow my friend Rachelle Christensen's idea and institute a Thought for Thursday post on ... yes, can you believe it? ... on Thursdays!

This first one deals with the way writers think, but you don't have to be a writer to enjoy it.

Thought for Thursday

You know you're a writer when your grocery list reads:
Creamy fresh milk
Grapes, picked glistening from the vine
Lettuce pulled from the earth by strong, brown arms

~ Adair Lara

Even though I'm a writer, I've never written a list like that. The grocery store part of my brain is much too practical ... and in much, too much, of a hurry. However, I can tell you that I love Lara's list and just might have to start doing mine that way.

Have you ever written a list like that? Drop off a comment and tell me what your grocery/hardware/mini-mart list is like. Do you write it on scrap paper? On an envelope? In pen? Pencil? Informed people need to know on this Thoughtful Thursday!

Thanks to all who entered, and for those who help in the fight against breast cancer!

Sam's Club Pink Promotion Winner ... and a Pink House

October is the month where so many people (bless their hearts) take steps to promote breast cancer awareness or to raise funds for breast cancer research. For my part, along with an annual donation to breast cancer awareness groups, I purchase pink products and redeem Yoplait pink lids. I also created and help maintain an awareness blog called Breast Cancer Resources in Charles County, MD.

In addition ... I recently held the Sam's Club Pink Promotion Gift Card Giveaway which not only promoted breast cancer awareness, but also gave readers the chance to enter a drawing for a gift card. It has now officially ended, and the winner is Rachelle Christensen. (Congrats, Rachelle!)

Still, my efforts are small in comparison to what some are able to do. I just received news from MyBlogSpark about a woman who painted her house pink. Now that's going whole hog!

What MyBlogSpark and Yoplait Say

Head over to Facebook.com/Yoplait and the Save Lids to Save Lives link to watch Yoplait and the Denver Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure honor long-time breast cancer volunteer Joanie Lucas.

Joined by neighbors, volunteers and Yoplait, Joanie painted her entire home bright pink to remind people that the fight against breast cancer starts right next door! The house will remain pink for the month of October to symbolize women across the country who are working to make a difference in their neighborhoods and communities through programs like Yoplait´s Save Lids to Save Lives and their local Komen Race for the Cure. During the webcast, Joanie Lucas, Komen representative Michele Ostrander, and Yoplait representative Berit Morse discuss Joanie´s efforts and simple ways people can support the cause.

What I Say

October has just started, so please take a little time to support breast cancer awareness and to help raise funds for breast cancer research and support groups. Breast cancer patients and survivors the world over will thank you!

And again, congratulations to Rachelle Christensen, the winner of the Sam's Club gift card.
